A method to perform the measurement of photon beam spectra from X-ray tubes is described. It consists of exciting the fluorescence of elements with their K-binding energies lying within the energetic range of the bremsstrahlung spectrum, using the tube photon beam, and a 241 Am excitation source as a reference, to normalize individual results of each element.

Americium-241 is an important radionuclide for efficiency calibrations of photon spectrometers in the low- energy range, with a significant gamma emission at 59.5 keV and the L X-ray multiplet with energies ranging from 11 to 23 keV (Campbell and Mc Nelles, 1974). Am241 Gamma Spectrum 241Am (Americium) Americium is a man made radioactive isotope, and is commonly found in smoke detectors. The source is an alpha emitter, and in the decay process it also kicks out a gamma at 59.6KeV. X-ray machines seem to do the impossible: They see straight through clothing, flesh and even metal thanks to some very cool scientific principles at work. Find out how X-ray machines see straight to your bones. Advertisement By: Tom Harris
The 242 Cm/Be spectruim shows marked differences from that of 241 Am/Be. The spectrum from 241 Am/F shows fine structure not previously reported eleswhere. The neutron energy spectrum of a 241 Am-Be (_,n) source was measured by means of a 3 He spectrometer in the energy range from 100 keV to 11 MeV. The spectrometer consisted of two semiconductor detectors with a proportional counter arranged between them to measure the energy loss of the 3 He (n,p) 3 H reaction particles in the 3 He gas.

A potassium ferrocyanide crystal was mounted on the spectrometer table and the spectrum was recorded on a photographic plate. The following article is from The Great Soviet Encyclopedia (1979). It might be outdated or ideologically biased. X-Ray Spectra the emission and absorption spectra of X rays, that is, of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths from 104 to 103 angstroms (A).

An X-ray, or X-radiation, is a penetrating form of high-energy electromagnetic radiation. Most X-rays have a wavelength ranging from 10 picometers to 10 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 petahertz to 30 exahertz (30×10 15 Hz to 30×10 18 Hz) and energies in the range 124 eV to 124 keV.X-ray wavelengths are shorter than those of UV rays and typically longer than those of
